Ignite Lansing didn’t involve any combustion, just some great ideas in a great venue. Ignite was originally started in Seattle, based off Pecha Kucha Nights. Speakers are given a stage and mic to talk about whatever topic they want. The catch? They only have 5 minutes and 15 slides. And the slides automatically advance every 20 seconds. FollowFriday is a twitter meme where people recommend people they think you should follow. The power of the followfriday recommendation has diluted somewhat with the practice of recommending a long list of people. A single (or few) recommendation with a reason is still useful.
