Indicators of Increasing Brand Loyalty in Social Media

Steam Guages as brand loyalty indicatorsYesterday’s post dealt with using social media to increase brand loyalty. But how do you know if what you’re doing is working? It can be challenging to measure brand loyalty since it often hides amongst other activities like engagement and plain old interest in your content. Unfortunately, there’s not a metric that points completely to brand loyalty, but there are a few indicators that you’re on the right path.

17 Reasons Why No One is Following You on Twitter

AloneAs I was going through my new Twitter followers this morning, viewing each profile and timeline, I started thinking about why many did not have a lot of followers. I think these types of mistakes are made by many first-time Twitter users, especially when they try to use Twitter for the same marketing and advertising they do in other channels.  Here are some reasons people may not be following you on Twitter (or why it seems like you’re talking to yourself):

13 Twitter Tips for Increasing Engagement

The BirdsA major frustration for people trying out Twitter for the first time is figuring out how to get anyone to respond. They set up their Twitter account, tweet a few times and wonder why no one responds. While tweets are public unless you protect them, they probably won’t be seen by anyone unless they’re following you, they do a search for something you mention or you’re on a list. Here are some tips for increasing the engagement on your Twitter profile and getting people to listen to you…

The Most Effective Time to Tweet

Eiffel Tower TelescopeI crunched some numbers on my Twitter account to see what the most effective time is to tweet (at least for me).  I took a look at the number of clicks on tweets by what time of day and what day of the week for a 2 month time period (August and September) and then averaged them to remove discrepancies due to the number of tweets. Tweets included links to articles by others, my own blog posts, a few promotions and retweets.  I took out a couple of retweets that had huge click numbers since I had retweeted a very influential person and clicks were most likely due to their influence.  I tweet about a fairly wide range of topics, but the results are interesting….

What is a Twitter Hashtag?

Hashtag ArtIf you’re on Twitter you may have seen people put a # in front of a word in their post. That’s what’s called a hashtag, and it makes it easy for other people who are interested in a topic to follow all the posts about it. Hashtags are similar to tagging a photo in Flickr… they help other people understand what the tweet is about, as well as applications that try to help make sense of the overall Twitter stream. How can you use Twitter hashtags for your business?

Review: Klout for Measuring Twitter Influence

Klout is a measurement tool which gives an idea of social web influence (at least via Twitter). Their data is used by applications such as Co-Tweet, HootSuite and others. Like Twitalyzer, Klout measures various aspects of Twitter usage and network, but focuses more on how influence and messages are spread via your network.  Just because you have a lot of followers doesn’t mean that all of them are actually listening and engaging with you (and they probably aren’t).  Klout gives you an idea of what your actual reach is and how engaged you are with your network (and vice versa).

The Wrong Way to Market on Twitter

Sending tweets where you’re pretending to have a conversation with someone, or rting something they didn’t actually tweet, or DMing me with promotions or offers is the wrong way to market on Twitter.  And you’re missing the point! (and actually hurting yourself).

Thoughts on Twitter’s Promoted Tweets

Twitter recently revealed phase 1 of their new business model – Promoted Tweets.  According to their blog post, Promoted Tweets are regular tweets which advertisers have paid to appear at the top of certain search results on Twitter (and be designated as promoted tweets).  These tweets also go out as they normally would – to the public timeline and to anyone following the profile of the brand.  This new ad model raises a lot of questions – how will Promoted Tweets be received by Twitter users and will they be an effective means of advertising?
