Top Internet Strategy, Marketing & Technology Links – Feb 10, 2010

We all work hard at the SEO process – analyzing sites, gathering data, researching potential problems and identifying the solutions. Today’s post is on how to work smarter and faster using bookmarklets for SEO. No matter your browser, these plug-and-play links will let you get your job done faster and easier, and look like a pro in front of bosses and clients.. – 30 SEO Bookmarklets to Save You Time (SEOmoz)

If there’s one thing business owners don’t have enough of, it’s time.  This list is a bit technical, but you get some good data from the bookmarklets/links if you have the inclination.

Even brands with large TV advertising budgets need to differentiate their Web sites. You can’t afford to give business away to your competitor. This simply helps them grow their business from search with a much lower customer acquisition cost then is available elsewhere. – Why Brand Building Isn’t Enough (Search Engine Watch)

Brand Building certainly is not enough – online or off.  Search Engine Watch is clearly devoted to all things search engine, so their article focuses mostly on link building, which is important.  However, there’s something to be said for offering a product that’s differentiated because it offers something of value to the consumer that they can’t get from anywhere else.  That’s not marketing voodoo, that’s just good strategy, regardless of whether we’re talking about your website or your business in general.

I don’t have to tell you that Facebook can be a tremendous source of web traffic. There’s a good chance that most of the people you know are on it, and the ones who aren’t may be eventually. The social network is consuming more and more of people’s time, and thanks to mobile devices, it is always accessible. If you don’t have a Facebook Page, you may be missing out on not only traffic to your site, but a chance to engage with customers and ultimately help your brand’s reputation. – Reasons to Have a Facebook Page and Ways to Make it Better (WebProNews)

I think a lot of us, myself included, are still working on figuring out how to make a Facebook fan page really work for our business.   With so many ways to connect with people and distribute content, it’s hard to figure out what should happen on FB that isn’t already happening somewhere else.  But the data about the amount of time people spend on Facebook is certainly persuasive. I have our blog posts linking on our FB page, but I’ve also been trying to interact more there as well.  I think it’s easier for larger brands to get a big following on FB (since they’re known).  Us, smaller brands, have to work at it a bit more.

Today we’re co-launching a survey which aims to find out how children 12 years and younger use Web technology. We’ve partnered with Boston research firmLatitude, which developed the survey tool and will help us analyze the data. The survey will be open for 2 weeks, after which ReadWriteWeb and Latitude will list and analyze the results. – Survey: How Kids 12 & Under Use Web Technology (ReadWriteWeb)

This survey should be pretty interesting.  While I think a lot of us may know how children use web technology, I bet we’ll all be a bit surprised.

We post links to stories about how to use the web for business throughout the day on Twitter, Google Reader Shared or Delicious. Also, if you have a post or link you think is worth sharing, please let us know!
