This blog post is for the analytics driven, SEO savvy, search samurai looking to implement tracking code best practices and take advantage of some useful Google Analytics plugins. – Google Analytics Tracking Code Basics and Time Saving Plugins (SEOmoz)

These tips are for the more advanced Google Analytics user – probably not for most casual users.  Google Analytics can be pretty powerful, but some of the power is a bit hidden and requires some figuring out to implement.  SEOmoz has some good tips if you’re an advanced user who wants to get more out of Google Analytics.

PepsiCo ditched the Super Bowl this year to make a major social media play. Instead of spending money for ad time on the Super Bowl, it’s relying primarily on digital initiatives to spread the word about its Internet-based Refresh Project contest and charity campaign. – Forbes: Super Bowl, A Missed Opportunity For Pepsi (Web Strategy by Jeremiah)

There was a lot of buzz about Pepsi’s decision not to advertise in the Super Bowl (they’ve been advertising in the SB consistently for the last 36 years or so), so it’s interesting to see an analysis of their social media campaign for Pepsi Refresh.  I have to agree with Jeremiah’s assessment – it’s nice to see Pepsi use social media, but they really missed out on an opportunity to use the Super Bowl audience to gain traction for their social media campaign.  Using social media for marketing doesn’t mean that you should ignore more traditional marketing methods if they work with your goals and target audience.

Twitter users are sending out more than a billion tweets per month, according to Royal Pingdom. This is probably what CEO Ev Williams was talking about when he said in January“Across all metrics that matter, yesterday was Twitter’s highest-usage day ever. (And today will be bigger.)” While Twitter’s growth in terms of users has slowed, its users are clearly more engaged than ever. – Twitter Still Growing, Users Now Send A Billion Tweets Per Month (Business Insider)

There was a lot of talk about how Twitter had a lot of users, but those users weren’t really using the service.  Twitter had an influx of signups when big names like Oprah started using the service, but those users weren’t actually actively participating.  Twitter has also had some usability issues, which we’ve discussed, involving the signup process and what new users are supposed to do (it assumes they know how to use Twitter, which is a big mistake).  It’s good to see people actually starting to use Twitter more.

We post links to stories about how to use the web for business throughout the day on Twitter, Google Reader Shared or Delicious. Also, if you have a post or link you think is worth sharing, please let us know!
