Digging in the Cache – Facepalm

Digging in the Cache is a series where we go back in time to look at fun tidbits of Internet and computer history. Ever feel exasperated by someone on online? Wish you could show your frustration? According to Wikipedia, Facepalm “is a physical gesture of lowering one’s face into one’s hand, usually partially concealing the face… The facepalm was popularized as an Internet meme based on an image of Star Trek Captain Jean-Luc Picard performing the gesture.”

Now facepalm can be found throughout Internet culture, sometimes showing up as a link to an image of someone performing a facepalm (often Captain Piccard), but often just mentioned in passing:

“*facepalm* How could you do that?”

If you’re really frustrated, you can have a double facepalm:

There’s even a site dedicated to pictures of people facepalming: http://www.thefacepalm.org/

A variation is *headdesk* in which someone slams their head onto a desk or table in frustration.

What popular examples of facepalm have you seen?
