Find Errors in Your Structured Data with Google Webmaster Tools

Structured data helps search engines and crawlers properly categorize different types of information on a website.  There is structured data for all sorts of information from addresses to reviews to recipes.  However, implementing structured data correctly can be error-prone and now Google’s Webmaster Tools has added support for debugging this type of information.

Users can click on each content type to see any relevant errors they may have made in their implementation. They can go and test those snippets with the Structured Data Testing Tool in order to test for errors and correct them, according to what Google discovers. Once you’ve used the testing tool to recheck any pages with errors, it will be updated automatically in Webmaster Tools to reflect the corrections or the problems the pages may be having. — Google Webmaster Tools Adds Debugging Support in Structured Data Dashboard by Jennifer Slegg

Twitter’s Promoted Tweets Going Mobile

It was just a matter of time before Twitter increased the amount of ads in its feed and applications. Twitter announced on Monday that mobile users would start to see promoted tweets right in their timelines. Promoted Tweets are a way for advertisers to get themselves in front of more Twitter users, and a way for Twitter to make money. This change is not surprising now that Twitter has public stockholders to please.  It’s common knowledge that ads that are set apart tend to be ignored, so putting Promoted Tweets right in the feed is a way to increase the performance of those ads.

Get Ready for Mobile in 2014

Mobile is big.  That’s no surprise.  The explosion of smartphones and tablets has driven the popularity of the mobile web. Due to that popularity, mobile is key to Google’s strategy.  As part of this strategy, Google is likely to reward sites that can deliver mobile pages in less than one second.  It’s common knowledge that Google rewards regular websites that perform faster claiming that they better serve their visitors.  Now it appears that the same enticements will be offered on mobile websites.

eConsultancy has more on the subject:

Over the last four months, Google has been ramping up its publicity of a more aggressive target for mobile site performance: sub one second page load times.

Enforcement of this aspiration comes from Google’s usual source: algorithmic rewards for sites achieving their goal.
